Welcome!

I try to make therapy relatable and create a safe and non-judgemental space where you are free to show up exactly as you are. There is room to laugh, cry, vent, and everything in between in session. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that empowers you to recognize and harness your strengths and self-knowledge. I bring my mental health expertise and experience as a mama in order to work together to get you where you want to be.

Who am I?

It was during my time working as a Family Outreach Worker with the Terra Centre for Teen Parents that I first decided to pursue a career in perinatal mental health. In that role I developed a passion for supporting parents experiencing challenges in the transition to parenthood. I also had the opportunity to work in partnership with mental health professionals and saw the urgent need for access to safe, affordable and high-quality services in this area.

 

I am also a mom to three wild and wonderful boys.  I survived a traumatic birth with my first son and I relied on therapy to work through the emotions that came as a result of that adjustment period. Being a mom is the most magical, challenging, rewarding, and exhausting role. It has challenged me to face my own anxiety and perfectionism. It has also cemented my commitment to improving the accessibility of maternal mental health services.

 

Beyond motherhood and therapy, I love travelling, spending time in nature (especially by water), drinking hot coffee, reading thriller novels, tattoos, and constantly organizing my house.

How do I work?​

 

Therapy is not a one size fits all process. It is important to take time in the beginning to build a trusting relatsionship so that you feel comfortable sharing your worries with me. I need to understand who you are, where you come from and where you want to go. I have experience working with the following therapeutic approaches and I apply them flexibly to respond to your unique context and preferences:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) - identifying and challenging thoughts and beliefs that are not serving you well, as well as unhelpful behaviours, to create change.

  • Mindfulness - learning to observe your thoughts, emotions and other present-moment experiences without judging or reacting to them.

  • Narrative Therapy- recognizing the stories that shape your life and deciding which ones suit you and which ones you can let go of. Separating the problem and the person is in the heart of narrative therapy, "the problem is the problem, the person is not the problem".

All of these approaches can be effective in treating a wide range of problems, such as depression, anxiety disorders, marital problems, obsessive-compulsive disorder, perfectionism, and stress reduction. 

 

Together we will develop an understanding of the problem, identify your goals and develop a plan to get you to where you want to be.

 

At the end of the session, to further your learning,  we will discuss what would be helpful to practice outside of therapy such as a self-care exercise, journalling, or use of a mantra.
