Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.

Growth from change.

Fertility. Pregnancy. Loss. Birth. Postpartum. Parenting.

Each of these events represents a significant change in your life.

Wildfire causes major changes to the landscape and fireweed is often the first sign of new growth.

Fireweed Counselling helps you to express, process, and understand the changes that you experience.

By providing tools, skills, and knowledge, I will support you in building resilience and setting the stage for renewal.

Meet Jenna

For more than 10 years I have worked with children, parents and families as a therapist and in a variety of other roles with social organizations across Alberta.

I was initially inspired to pursue a career in maternal mental health while working as an outreach worker with pregnant and parenting teens. Several years, three children, and a Master of Social Work degree later, I serve clients in Alberta as a Registered Social Worker and as Founder & Therapist at Fireweed Counselling. I created this private therapy and parenting support practice to support women in various stages of their motherhood journey from challenges with fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting.

Motherhood is hard, but your struggle doesn't have to be yours alone

-Dr. Brené Brown

My Approach

My general philosophy for counselling is that it is a collaborative process.  You are the expert of your life. I bring my experience as a mother and clinical expertise to support you. Together we work in a safe, compassionate and non-judgmental space to have you feeling better.

Therapy is not a one size fits all process. My therapeutic approach is flexible to respond to your unique context and preferences and I have experience working with the following approaches:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

  • Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

Each of these approaches can be effective in treating a wide range of problems, but you do not need to have a diagnosis to seek therapy or benefit from talking to someone. Sometimes these labels can be helpful, but simply feeling as if "something is not right" is enough.

Together, we will develop an understanding of the problem, identify your goals, and develop a plan to get you to where you want to be.

Sample Therapy:
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

This popular psychological treatment is demonstrated by scientific evidence to produce change. CBT emphasizes helping individuals learn to be their own therapists and is based on several principles:

Psychological problems are based, in part, on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking.

Psychological problems are based, in part, on learned patterns of unhelpful behavior.

People suffering from psychological problems can learn better ways of coping with them, thereby relieving their symptoms and becoming more effective in their lives.

Services & Pricing

FREE - 20 minutes

Initial Consultation

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Prior to starting therapy, all clients have the option to start with a free 20-minute phone consultation. This provides an opportunity for me to learn more about you, explain my approach and the logistics of virtual therapy, answer any questions that you may have, and give you an opportunity to confirm that I am the right fit for you.

Please fill out the contact form below to set up a consultation.

$150 - 50 minutes

Individual Counselling

I offer phone or video sessions depending on your preference. Either way, this is your time -  to share, explore, and make a plan for the future. You are in the driver's seat.

With each session you will process and interpret your experiences, thoughts, and feelings to improve your understanding and resilience. You will be given new tools and develop new skills that may be general in nature or specific to your problem.

The frequency and total number of sessions will depend on the specifics of the problem(s) you are navigating, whether you complete assigned work between sessions, and your objectives for therapy. Although the number of sessions generally ranges from 5 to 20 for most clients, there is no set minimum or maximum. It is my goal to help get you healthy, happy, and functioning as quickly as possible but this may take more or less time depending on you and your circumstances.

If fees are a barrier to accessing counselling please contact me. I am able to offer sliding scale fees to a set number of clients each year.
